PD recommendations based on the the DOL AI literacy frameworks

For Faculty

  • This session explores how AI can function as a support tool within studio practice — assisting with ideation, research, drafting, and articulation — without replacing technical skill, material exploration, or disciplinary expertise.

    Faculty will:

    • Develop a working understanding of generative AI systems

    • Practice structured prompting strategies

    • Identify discipline-appropriate use cases

    • Establish clear boundaries between enhancement and substitution

This workshop supports the DOL competencies of understanding AI principles, directing AI effectively, and exploring AI applications.

  • Studio critique depends on nuance, interpretation, and contextual knowledge. As students increasingly use AI-generated feedback, faculty must clarify where professional judgment remains central.

    This session addresses:

    • Bias and hallucination in AI systems

    • Limits of automated critique

    • Student comparisons between AI feedback and faculty grading

    • Ethical disclosure and transparency

This workshop supports evaluating AI outputs and using AI responsibly, as outlined in the DOL framework.

  • AI tools can increase access without lowering standards. This session focuses on responsible use of AI to support multilingual students, neurodivergent learners, and diverse learning styles.

    Topics include:

    • Translation support during critique

    • Simplifying assignment language

    • Alt-text generation

    • Structured reflection scaffolds

This workshop reinforces responsible AI use and equitable access within studio environments.
